A Brighter Shade of Jade

Rose Canton developed a split personality disorder and plant based super powers after being exposed to a strange root on the island of Tashimi. For years Rose struggled with the sporadic appearances of her alter ego which called itself Thorn. As Thorn she battled the original Flash Jay Garrick and the original Green Lantern Alan Scott.

After years of this Rose finally subdued her alter ego through therapy and adopted a the new identity Alyx Florin. In this identity she once again met Alan Scott and the two became romantically involved and eventually married.

When Rose became pregnant with twins her Thorn personality suddenly reemerged and fought with Rose for control of her body. Fearing she would lose the struggle and possible hurt Alan or her children Rose fled and gave birth to the twins Todd and Jennifer and then gave them up for adoption.

Afterwards Rose was unable to cope with her split personality any longer and committed suicide to stop the threat Thorn posed to her children and everyone else.

Jennifer and Todd were separated when they were adopted by two different families and Jennifer was adopted by the Lynn-Haden family. When Jennifer was in her late teens the star shaped birthmark on her left palm blazed to life with the emerald energy of the Starheart, a cosmic energy source that her father could only tap with his ring. Jennifer’s body turned luminescent green and became a conduit for the Starheart (a piece of which her father Alan had fashioned his Green Lantern ring out of.)

The self renewing energies inside her body gave Jennifer an unlimited supply of emerald energy for a variety of effects including creating any shape or construct she can imagine and the ability to fly.

Dubbing herself Jade, Jenny eventually reunited with her brother Todd who also developed shadow based powers and fought crime as the vigilante Obsidian. The twins eventually joined with the second generation super hero team Infinity Inc. During their adventures Jade and Obsidian discovered who their true parents were and eventually reunited with Alan Scott forming a tight knit family.

When Infinity Inc disbanded Jade gave up adventuring for a while and tried to live a normal life but she was eventually drawn back into super heroics when she became romantically involved with Kyle Rayner who was the current Green Lantern of Earth at the time.

Always a team player Jade has since gone on to help the Darkstars, the Justice League of America, her father’s team the Justice Society of America and the Outsiders as well as fighting crime on her own and becoming a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
