I hate when video games have crappy endings. I also hate it when a movie or a TV show I’ve invested time in has a shit ending but with games it’s kind of like an extra hard kick in the crotch to me because it takes time, effort and skills to make it to that ending.
Being a long time gamer I’ve experienced this more times than I can count. I mean yeah in the old days of quarter arcades, the original NES or Atari 2600 you didn’t expect much of anything except maybe beating a high score or a “Congratulations you won!” message along with a screen shot of your character looking bad ass.
In the arcades you could also look forward to maybe getting a free game after the credits (That was when the game rewarded you with a new game of the game you just beat for free sometimes at a higher difficulty). Or most likely you got to put your initials or name on the scoreboard rankings as a symbol of your victory.
But you know with games today I really feel there is no excuse for them to hand us a shitty ending especially for all the effort we as gamers have to make to beat some of these games.
Like honestly for all the crap my girlfriend and I went through playing Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, or Resident Evil 6 I really expected much better endings.
So all I have to say is after seeing the trailer for Resident Evil 7 which quite frankly didn’t exactly excite me I really just hope it has a good story and more importantly a satisfying ending.
Like for instance if someone “accidentally” commits mass murder including killing a standing U.S. President they need to be tried for treason and executed. Not get a slap on the wrist, a job with the government they literally just betrayed and to top it off a “Good job partner!” from the insane idiot who dragged their worthless mom jeans wearing ass all over creation trying to clean up their fucking mess.
I say to that game, “No thank you and good day to you sir!” if that is your idea of a good ending.
All I want is if we make it through whatever nightmare a Resident Evil game is putting us through we better get a great, satisfying ending that makes sense and doesn’t make us feel like we wasted a lot of time and effort for nothing. Like the triumph we felt escaping the Spencer Estate, the awe of seeing William Birkin's final mutation or Raccoon City destroyed as we made it out by train or helicopter, killing a tyrant with a missile after escaping Sheenah Island, escaping Rockfort Island and then Alexia's Arctic base! These are the feelings I want again goddamn it! Oh hell I'll even include escaping that filthy Spanish dwarf's castle that our princess was clearly not in... I want that feeling of "I survived hell, I took out the bad guys and saved my and my friend's asses!" feeling again!
In other words I want an ending like this:
